Pawnbrokers

The County Administrative Board issues permits to run a pawnbroking business and is also the supervisory authority for pawnbrokers that have their head office in the county.

A pawnbroker is a business enterprise which lends money to you as a consumer if you provide something as collateral.

Applications, permits and supervision

If you wish to run a pawnbroking business you will require a permit from the County Administrative Board in the county in which you intend to operate. We issue permits if we feel that the company will run sound pawnbroker operations and that the company in general satisfies the requirements laid down in the regulations in the Pawnbroking Act. A pawnbroking business comes under the supervision of the County Administrative Board.
