The County Administrative Board is responsible for protecting, looking after and informing about
- historic remains
- buildings and settlements
- churches and cemeteries
- locations of interest from an industrial history point of view
- the cultural landscape.
The County Administrative Board is active in making different decisions related to the use of land. We could, for example, require that an archaeological investigation be carried out before construction can begin. We are also responsible for informing about the environments and buildings that we protect and manage. The County Administrative Board can award grants to preserve different cultural environments.
To assist us in our work we mainly make use of two laws: the Heritage Conservation Act and the Environmental Code.
The central authority for cultural environment conservation in Sweden is the National Heritage Board in Stockholm.
