Citizenship

If you are a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Norway or Iceland you can be granted Swedish citizenship by applying to the County Administrative Board. If you are a citizen of another country you should contact the Swedish Migration Board.

If you wish to become a Swedish citizen you must live in Sweden and you should have done so for at least five years. If you are aged 20 or older you should not have been sentenced to imprisonment or a similar sentence during the past five years. You must make your application personally if you are over the age of 18.

 

Reversal to Swedish citizenship for residents in the Nordic countries

If you have become a citizen of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway and in doing so you have forfeited your Swedish citizenship you can regain your citizenship by applying to the County Administrative Board once you have become resident in Sweden again.
